As a kid I grew up on a steady diet of VHS movies, BMXs and my Dad’s record collection.
Movies like First Blood, Deer Hunter, JAWS, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Top Gun and Alien were regulars at home.
Dad introduced me to Black & White photography and printing in our laundry when I was a teenager, I fell for it and I’ve never turned back.
I studied photography at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and then later on I received a Graduate Diploma in Cinematography from the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
I like working with natural light but love it when I get opportunities to light a set and craft it from the ground up. I take my cues and motivation from a projects locations and inspiration from anywhere and everywhere. I love street photography, documentary style photography and anything with a sense of honesty or authenticity.
I’m a big fan of international cinematographers like Roger Deakins, Matthew Libatique and Emmanuel Lubezki, along with Australian cinematographers such as Greig Fraser and Adam Arkapaw.
Whether it’s working with professional actors or real people, I always try and connect with the talent, crew and directors. I love the collaboration, work ethic and challenge of film making and I love the power the medium has to touch our emotions and connect with people all around the world.
